Alan Carr to Embark on Castle Renovation Journey in New Disney+ Series, ‘Castle Man’
Table of Contents
Disney+ is set to document comedian Alan Carr‘s aspiring quest to purchase and renovate a historic castle in Scotland, offering viewers a unique blend of property renovation and celebrity lifestyle. Teh series, currently titled Castle Man (w/t), promises a captivating look into the life of the British entertainer as he navigates the challenges and rewards of stately home ownership.
From Reality TV Star to Castle Owner
Carr rose to prominence as the host of the popular British talk show Chatty Man and recently captivated audiences with his strategic gameplay on the reality series Celebrity Traitors U.K.. His victory on the show appears to have sparked a new ambition: to trade the intrigue of a reality game for the tangible reality of owning and operating a centuries-old castle. According to a plot synopsis, the project is fueled by a personal reckoning as Carr approaches his 50th birthday.
“With Alan’s 50th birthday fast approaching, he finds himself at a moment of reckoning, taking stock of where he is and where he wants to be,” the synopsis reads. “He has long dreamed of owning a grand château, but after a transformative and iconic stay at The Traitors’ castle, that fantasy will now become a reality – or will it? He doesn’t just want to visit a castle, he wants to build a life in one, a leap of faith driven entirely by Alan himself.”
A Midlife Pursuit of History and Romance
Carr himself described the venture as a decidedly unconventional midlife crisis. “Some men, when they have a midlife crisis, buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me? I want my very own castle,” Carr stated. “Since I was a boy in Northampton, I’ve always dreamt big, and have always been enchanted with the history and romance of a stately home and as I turn fifty, I feel it’s my time. All I want is a turret to call my own – get me over that drawbridge!”
Filming is scheduled to begin in Scotland on January 22, with production handled by Expectation, the company behind successful series like Clarkson’s Farm and Alma’s Not Normal. This pedigree suggests Castle Man will offer a similar level of engaging, character-driven storytelling.
Disney+ Bets on Carr’s Broad Appeal
Disney+ executives are confident that Carr’s unique brand of humor and warmth will resonate with audiences. A senior official at Disney+ noted that Carr is “one of those rare talents who brings instant warmth, wit, and originality to everything he touches.”
“We’ve watched him turn his hand to stand-up, gameshows, podcast, and presenting, but when we discovered he was looking to purchase a castle to run, we knew this was a journey we had to follow,” the official added. “Expect Alan in new territory, with all the same riotous entertainment you know and love.”
