Alberta’s premier announced on Saturday that his United Conservative Party will challenge the federal government’s use of the Emergencies Act in court.

He shares this decision on his Twitter account.

Mr Kenney said the use of the law was “unnecessary”, “disproportionate”, “violated natural justice”, “represented an intrusion into provincial jurisdiction” and “set a dangerous precedent”.

However, he said last week that he would respect the decision of the federal government if it deemed it necessary to resort to Emergency Measures Act to put an end to the protests in other jurisdictions.

However, he added that the use of this law in his province could inflame tensions there.

According to him, Alberta has the necessary powers to enforce law and order. RCMP arrested 11 people protesting at the Coutts border crossing earlier this week.
