MUNICH (special envoy).- At the end of the press conference with which he sealed his passage through the G-7 Summit in Germany, President Alberto Fernández denied that more restrictive measures will be taken around the dollar. More than 12,000 kilometers away, the president again endorsed the decisions of two officials highly questioned by Kirchnerism: the Minister of Economy, Martin Guzmanand the head of the Central Bank, Miguel Fish.

Taking as a trigger that today different measures were taken in Argentina to limit imports, Fernández was asked if he was evaluating the possibility of adding restrictions, for example, on the dollar card. The president sought to impress his response forcefully: “No, the measurements were taken today. The president of the Central Bank and the Minister of Economy have already explained them. They were measures that we had been thinking about since before and we were waiting for the Fund’s board to approve the first quarter to approve them because they would have meant a change in conditions compared to what the Fund had seen”.

“They go in the sense that reserves can be recovered, which is an important objective, and also put public accounts in order, because we we do not believe that you can live forever with a fiscal deficit: so you have to try to correct it gradually, you don’t have to do it wildly,” he added, to continue: “You have to do it without adjustment, the adjustment does not have to be done by peoplethe economy has to improve but the State has to do its part and that is the meaning of the measures that were taken”.

In the first part of his statements, Fernández referred to the details of the Summit, to which he arrived as a guest this Sunday and from which he will depart today to return to Argentina. “It was very important because I was able to bring the voice of the continent, I was able to state how the continent suffered the effects [de la guerra en Ucrania]”, he maintained, to add: “This war is bringing a problem to the global economy that is indisputable: the increase in energy prices. It seems to be the beginning of a famine that could affect, according to the FAO, 300 million inhabitants”. He stressed that he was able to express his opinion “on the issues that were discussed.”

“I said that the biggest problem is war; the second is the international economic order, which generates poverty. I expressed Argentina’s commitment to the climate issue, the injustice of how this problem is raised in the world. The southern hemisphere is a provider of oxygen and when it comes to ordering the mess that others have created, they demand us and do not give us the tools to be able to do it”, he added.

“We also talked about the importance of equalizing the genders. We were able to ask the industrialized world to please pay attention to the reality of the periphery”, insisted the President, to highlight the bilateral meetings he shared and summarize: “I leave satisfied and concerned. Satisfied because I was able to bring the task that I had set for myself, to bring the voice from another part of the world that is never heard in these meetings. I was able to express the commitment that Argentina has to express peace.”
