Starring Cassandra Ciangherotti, and with an elected body composed of Maria Ines Painted, Octavia Popescu, Gabriela Nunez y Mariana Gaja, Dostoevsky: The Demons and the Idiot gives us the adaptation of a literary work, which according to the director’s own words is one of the most complex adaptations he has made, since it is the synthesis that must be digestible for the viewers.

“Any adaptation must be very careful and always has complications. Now imagine the adaptation of a novel like one of Dostoevsky’s. It must be super detailed, so much so that it captures the audience’s attention, so much so that in the hour and a half that the work lasts, it is as understandable as possible.
There will always be complications, but that is the perfection of theatre”

“Any adaptation, but especially with this type of questioning, with these existential doubts of the author, is extremely complicated, but not impossible,” he reiterated.

“The challenge of living with actresses is always good, and even more so when you work with professionals. It is the part of the production that I enjoy the most, because seeing how they get into character, how they personify it so perfectly and deeply, and especially a work with a psychological burden like those handled by the author.”

He tells us Lomnitz, that the philosophical content, the reflection on human nature, on life, God, is the same theme of all the works of Dostoevsky, an author obsessed with answering those questions, which gave them the opportunity to extract fragments from different novels, which turned out to be scenes and complemented each other, taking the form of hallucinations.

“It’s not the three stories interspersed, it’s the story of the idiot prince, that’s where I tell you his demons and hallucinations come in”

He mentions that they had hours of discussions, “to be able to understand the text and I do not regret the time it took us, regardless of how little time we had.”

What helped us a lot was the quality of the actresses, they are magnificent and even more so with such psychologically charged characters, understanding the character 100% is very complicated.

This season begins in which the director promises to keep your mind and interest on the scene, we leave you the information so you can attend.
