The assembly was marked by tension. In recent days, a single candidacy of the three parties was being negotiated, but the possible agreement was blown up. The PP held the socialists responsible for what happened. He accused them of politicizing the institution and acting in imitation of Pedro Sanchez for the meeting held on Monday by Alberto Varela with the PSdeG candidate for the Xunta, Jos Ramn Gmez Besteiro.

The socialists blamed the breakup on the PP, due to the nervousness caused by Besteiro’s candidacy. The number two of the PSdeG, José Manuel Lage I consider that the popular ones have decided to bring Galicia into tension with state politics.

Lage said that the pact of the three parties was fully in force on Monday and reproached the popular parties for having broken the tradition of understanding that has prevailed in the entity.

The secretary of the socialist organization considered that justifying the breakup due to Besteiro’s meeting with Varela is a very poor and strange excuse, and added ironically that whoever elaborates the PPdeG’s arguments must be on vacation.

The tension in the assembly translated, among other signs, into boos during the intervention of the first vice president of the Xunta, Diego Calvowhich reproached the central government for inequalities between communities.

Calvo said that the Government’s decisions assume that a community has a privileged financing while the rest receives fewer resources, which affects the councils.

The vice president, who recognized that the city councils have assumed inappropriate powers, urged the mayors to preserve equality in the face of government measures that put democratic values at risk.

Varela avoided answering Calvo and recalled that the composition of the Fegamp assembly reflects the results of the municipal elections. The president asked the Xunta to assume the powers that the town councils have to provide improperly because they suppose an unaffordable expense that prevents them from meeting their obligations.
