The Chevrolet Corsa almost missed entering the house of Robélia Peixoto, owner of the snack bar where five people were run over on Sunday night (30). The accident happened in Corumbá, a city 419 kilometers from Campo Grande, and the driver of the car, identified only as Clodoaldo, was arrested red handed for drunk driving.

In an interview with the Diário Corumbaense website, Robélia said that if it weren’t for the iron gate in front of the place, the car would have entered her house. She stated that she has owned the diner for 11 years and has never seen an accident like this one.

“My daughter was in the first bedroom of the house, her bed is there and if it weren’t for the iron gate, he would have entered my house. He never rode a motorcycle or bicycle there that could cause something, ”said the trader.

According to the businesswoman, the estimated damage is between R$ 10,000 and R$ 15,000, including labor and what was destroyed, but for her the most important thing is that no one died and no one was seriously injured.

“Car is a cocked weapon. Alcohol and steering wheel don’t mix. Everyone is alive, that’s what matters”, Robélia pointed out.

According to the incident report, the driver of the Corsa vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Porto Carrero and Cáceres streets, crashed into another car and, subsequently, invaded the sidewalk of the snack bar, where there were several families.

Among the injured are the battery queen of Vila Mamona, Raiane Oliveira de Paula, 32, and her parents. She was conscious, oriented, had abrasions on her face, arms, legs, suspected fractures in both ankles and complained of severe pain in her hip.

Raiane’s father, 63 years old, was conscious, suffered abrasions on his face, arms and cuts on his leg. He also complained of hip and back pain. The mother of the queen of drums, 59 years old, had abrasions on her face and arms and a bleeding cut on her forehead.

Another person who appears being dragged by the Corsa is an employee of the cafeteria. The young woman identified as Bruna Tereza Cardoso do Rosário, 27, did not suffer serious injuries and ended up helping to calm the other victims.

“I was serving a family, delivering their snacks to the table, right at the end and explaining what snacks they were, as I always do, when I heard the noise and only had time to run quickly, but I was hit and thrown against the tables and I fell to the floor . I got up quickly and saw that nothing serious had happened to me”, described the attendant who has been working there for 4 years.

Then, she said that she went to meet Robelia and said she was fine. She then put Raiane’s mother on a chair and brought the woman water with sugar. “I tried to calm her down, as well as the other customers who were very scared”, the young woman also told the Diário Corumbaense website, which was highly praised by the owner of the place.

The Military Police found that he was driving under the influence of alcohol, with 0.60mg/l, which resulted in his arrest. The snack bar is undergoing renovations this Monday morning (31), due to the accident.
