Saudi Customs says alcohol should not be sold in duty free shops. The Tax and Customs Authority has ordered that alcohol should not be sold in duty-free shops operating at airports and other border gates in Saudi Arabia. The authority informed about this through Twitter.

The authority informed that the decision is based on the rules applicable to duty free shops. The authority referred to the customs rules and conditions for setting up duty free shops under the Uniform Customs Act for GCC countries. It also includes other related regulations relating to the operation of duty free shops.

The cabinet meeting had decided to open duty free shops as per requirement for those arriving and departing the country through air and sea transport. As a part of this, rules and regulations were framed.

Duty free shops are currently operating in the passenger halls of airports in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah. It has also been decided to set up more duty free shops in coordination with various departments.
