Alec Baldwin Faces Possible New Criminal Charges in the Fatal ‘Rust’ Shooting, Prosecutors Confirm

by time news

Alec Baldwin may be facing new criminal charges in connection with the fatal shooting on the set of the film “Rust” in 2021, according to New Mexico prosecutors. Fox News Digital has confirmed that prosecutors have revealed additional evidence that they believe shows Baldwin’s criminal culpability in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the shooting of director Joel Souza.

In a statement, Special Prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis stated, “After extensive investigation over the past several months, additional facts have come to light that we believe show Mr. Baldwin has criminal culpability in the death of Halyna Hutchins and the shooting of Joel Souza. We believe the appropriate course of action is to permit a panel of New Mexico citizens to determine from here whether Mr. Baldwin should be held over for criminal trial.”

Baldwin’s lawyers responded to the claims, saying, “It is unfortunate that a terrible tragedy has been turned into this misguided prosecution. We will answer any charges in court.”

This development comes after Baldwin’s initial involuntary manslaughter charges were dropped in April. The charges were dismissed due to further investigation and the need for forensic analysis, which could not be completed before the scheduled preliminary hearing in May.

Moreover, a judge recently ordered Baldwin’s production company to turn over documents to prosecutors. The prosecutors are investigating whether Baldwin attempted to cut corners on safety measures to maximize profit. It was reported that the state requested these documents after the armorer of the film, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, claimed that additional safety training was denied due to financial motives.

The prosecutors, Morrissey and Lewis, plan to present their case to a grand jury within the next two months. The grand jury will determine whether there is enough probable cause to proceed with criminal charges against Baldwin.

As the investigation continues, this is a developing story. Updates will be provided as new information arises.
