Islamabad: Former ICC elite umpire and three-time ‘World Cricket Umpire of the Year’ Aleem Dar will retire in 2025 after the Pakistan domestic season. He was included in the elite panel of umpires of the International Cricket Council (ICC) from 2003 to 2023. He is currently in Pakistan’s elite panel and is among the four umpires from Pakistan in the ICC international panel.

Five World Cup experience

“Every great journey eventually comes to an end and now the time has come for me to concentrate completely on my social and philanthropic work,” Dar said on Friday. Dar made his first-class umpiring debut in Pakistan’s domestic tournament Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in 1999 after playing 17 first-class matches and 18 List A matches from 1986–98. He has umpired in 145 Tests, 231 ODIs and 72 T20s and five T20 World Cups.

Allegations of dishonesty have been made

Aleem Dar had to face a lot of criticism during the New Zealand team’s tour of Pakistan in January 2023. He was even called dishonest on the internet. In fact, on the fifth day of the Karachi Test, Pakistan needed 15 runs to win in the last three overs while New Zealand was just one wicket away from its victory, but due to bad light, umpire Aleem Dar decided to end the game, which at that time It was quite controversial. In this way both the second match and the series were drawn. The first match of that series also ended in a draw.
