The Spanish pilot Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) signed this Sunday the victory in the MotoGP long race of the Grand Prix of Great Britain, the ninth round of the Motorcycle World Championship, a success forged against the leader of the championship, the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Yamaha), whom he surpassed in the last spin The man from Granollers, who started twelfth, completed a spectacular performance that led him to overtake ‘Pecco’ on the last lap, in which he defended himself masterfully. In this way, he achieves his second victory in the premier class and becomes the fifth winner in the nine races held.

BagnaiaFor his part, he consolidates his first position in the general classification thanks to his second place and the debacle of his compatriot Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati), while the South African Brad Binder (KTM) completed the podium for the day. With the result of Bezzecchi, the Spanish Jorge Martin (Ducati), sixth this Sunday, regains second place in the championship. Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda), for his part, suffered another crash and continues without a point on a Sunday.

Once the traffic lights went out, the Australian Jack Miller (KTM) took command of the test after beating the ‘poleman’ on Saturday, the Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati), although ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia soon arrived from behind to take the lead.

The leader of the general classification began to shoot and only Bezzecchi, after recovering the position from the oceanic player -who dropped many positions after a touch with Maverick Vinales (Aprilia)-, managed to follow him. However, just a few laps later, with 14 laps to go, the Rimini rider suffered a crash that prevented him from taking second place in the World Championship.

Bagnaia seemed to be left alone, but even Alex Espargaró and Maverick Viñales arrived; the Aprilias were ready to put up a fight. The sky, meanwhile, gave a serious warning. With seven laps to go, the threat of the first drops meant that the race was declared wet, waving the white flag.

One lap later, it started to rain and Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) and the Italian crashed Aeneas Bastianini (Ducati). In front, the South African Brad Binder (KTM) and the Portuguese Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia), rain specialists, joined the fight.

It was in the last lap when Aleix managed to overtake Bagnaia to lead the race; he withstood the pressure of the transalpine in the last corners and crossed the finish line to sign his second victory in the premier class of his life.

As for the rest of the Spaniards, Viñales finished fifth, just ahead of Jorge Martín, while Raul Fernandez (Aprilia) closed the ‘Top 10’. Augusto Fernandez (KTM) was eleventh, Pol Espargaro (KTM) twelfth and Iker Lecuona (Honda) seventeenth.
