Alert for mass tourism in Los Nevados Park, director of the Carder proposes “peak and plate”

by time news

The Nevados National Natural Park faces growing pressure from mass tourism, evidenced through several videos published on social networks that show the agglomeration of vehicles and people every weekend.

This situation is causing a significant deterioration in the vegetation and fauna of this valuable paramo ecosystem.

Julio César Gómez Salazar, director of CARDER (Regional Autonomous Corporation of Risaralda), expressed his concern about the lack of attention to the surveillance and control posts of National Parks. To mitigate this crisis, he proposed the implementation of a peak and plate system and an environmental toll, measures that could help regulate the flow of visitors.

“From CARDER we make an urgent call for the control and surveillance posts to remain active. It is vital to establish an environmental toll and a peak and plate in the area,” said Gómez Salazar. In particular, he suggested prohibiting the entry of vehicles in the Cortaveral sector, the access point to the park from Risaralda, since their presence threatens the stability of this fragile ecosystem.

The Nevados National Park is considered one of the most important ecosystems in Colombia. However, it has been misinterpreted by some visitors as a place of wishes, where coins are thrown into fountains in the hope that their requests will be granted.

Faced with this problem, environmental authorities have raised alarm bells, pointing out that the massive presence of tourists lacks the necessary awareness about the importance of this protected area and its negative impact on flora and fauna.

The authorities hope that, through a joint effort between the Nevados National Park, the National Police, the Civil Defense and other relief agencies, it will be possible to comply with the ruling that declared the park as a subject of rights, thus promoting its conservation. and protection.
