Alexander Ogando qualifies for the 200m final in Budapest

The Dominican Alexander Ogando achieves a time of 20.02 seconds in the semifinal one of the 200 meters to qualify for the final of the event at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

It will be this Friday the 25th (3:50 pm) the final joust in which the San Juan de la Maguana will seek to be the second Dominican gold medalist in the world joust.

In the previous test (qualifying for the semifinals), Ogando finished second in the 7th qualifying heat with a time of 20.14. Only surpassed by the American Kenneth Bednarek who, with 20.01, reached the second best mark among the 24 classified.

The best record was made by the British Zharnel Hughes with 19.99. While the favorite Noah Lyles (20.05), from the United States anchored with the third best mark, to dominate the 2nd qualifying heat.

Ogando’s best level is 19.91, which he achieved by dominating one of the semifinals of the last World Championship, where he later placed 5th in the final with 19.93.

Among his most recent results is the gold medal in the last Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023 where he covered the double hectometre in 19.99. That will be the challenge to emulate in the grand final of the test.
