Alexander Vezenkov is clearly dragging him to Greece.
Almost certainly, the Bulgarian basketball star will return to Olympiakos. With the team from Piraeus, Vezenkov reached the final of the Euroleague, losing dramatically by a point difference to “Real” (Madrid) in Kaunas. However, Alexander was selected as the most valuable player of the season (2022-2023) in the most prestigious club tournament of the Old Continent.
Until recently, Vezenkov was a player of “Toronto”, but it became clear that the club from the National Basketball Association released the Bulgarian with a Greek and Cypriot passport. Thus, Vezenkov is giving up a total of $6,658,536 that was guaranteed to him under a contract with the Canadian team.
Apparently, the NBA was not to Vezenkov’s taste. Last season in Sacramento, he played in 42 games and averaged 5.4 points and 2.3 rebounds. However, our player missed quite a few matches due to an ankle injury, in the end he never fully gained the trust of head coach Mike Brown.
As soon as the 48-hour period for the official withdrawal from the contract with “Toronto” expires and the Bulgarian does not attract the interest of another NBA team, he will immediately return to Piraeus.
Olympiakos offered Vezenkov a five-year contract worth 17 million euros, with 13 of them guaranteed for the first four years of the deal. In the offer, there is an option for him to remain a player of the “red and whites” after this period. The contract will make him the second highest paid player in the history of the basketball club after American Josh Childress, who played for Olympiakos in 2008-2010.
“Vezenkov wants to participate in battles. He wants to prove himself against Panathinaikos. Next season, Greece’s eternal derby will be madness. The Bulgarian offensive player returns with only one goal – to win”, is one of the comments.
This season, “Panathinaikos” with the former big star of “Olympiakos” Kostas Sloukas became the champion, turning the eternal rival from 0:2 in the final series. The “Greens” also won the Euroleague.
