Alexander Zverev: ATP is investigating the allegations against him

Dhe men’s organization ATP has launched an investigation into the allegations against Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev. The former girlfriend of the 24-year-old hamburger had accused him of beating her in October 2019 during the Masters Series tournament in Shanghai.

Zverev has already denied these allegations several times. Shortly before the start of the US Open, he announced at the end of August that he would not comment publicly on this matter and that he had called on his lawyers.

The ATP condemns any form of violence or abuse and will investigate such allegations in relation to a tournament organized by it, it said in the statement of the men’s organization.

“The allegations raised against Alexander Zverev are to be taken seriously, and we have an obligation to investigate them,” ATP boss Massimo Calvelli is quoted as saying. “We hope that our investigations will enable us to clear up the facts in order to draw the right conclusions for our further course of action.”

Zverev’s brother and manager Mischa was asked for a comment.

Zverev starts this week at the Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells, California. The men’s competition at the tournament organized by ex-professional Tommy Haas begins this Thursday. Zverev has a bye in the first round.
