Alexei Navalny, one of the main opponents of Russian President Vladimir Putin

Opponent of Russian President Vladmir Putin, Alexei Navalny was found this Monday (25) after two weeks missing. According to his spokesman, he is in a prison in Siberia.

Navalny has been missing since December 11, when he failed to participate in two hearings. At the time, he was imprisoned in a penitentiary 240 kilometers from Moscow.

Lawyers say Navalny’s disappearance happened days after Vladmir Putin announced his candidacy for re-election to the Kremlin in 2024.

“We found Alexei. He is now in IK-3, in the settlement of Kharp, in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District,” said Kira Yarmysh, the activist’s spokesperson, on social media.

Kira highlighted that Navalny spoke with lawyers and that his health is stable. Before disappearing, the defense highlighted that the activist was weakened due to difficulty accessing food and an “unventilated” cell.

Alexei Navalny was convicted in August for allegedly creating an extremist community, in addition to financing political crimes. For the defense, the accusation is an attempt to repress the activist’s actions against Putin.
