In July, the death of “Alf” star Benji Gregory was announced. It has now been determined what the former child star died of at the age of just 46.

“Alf” is considered one of the most successful sitcoms of all time and is now a cult classic. Benji Gregory was there from the beginning, playing the son of the Tanner family and the best friend of the alien stranded on Earth. At just seven years old, Benji Gregory first appeared in front of the camera in the series in the mid-eighties as Brian and became world famous.

After four seasons, “Alf” ended – and so did Benji Gregory’s career. After a few small roles, he finally turned away from Hollywood in 2003 and disappeared from the public eye. In July, he returned to the headlines with sad news: Benji Gregory was found dead in his car in the parking lot of a bank in the US state of Arizona at the age of just 46. His dog, Hans the pug, died with him in the car.

What led to the death of the former child star was initially unclear. Around two months later, the official cause has now been determined. As the US portal “TMZ” reports, citing the responsible coroner at the Maricopa County Office, Benji Gregory died from heat exposure in connection with liver cirrhosis. His death is classified as an accident.

The 46-year-old suffered from depression and bipolar disorder and struggled with sleep problems that often kept him awake for days, his sister Rebecca told TMZ. Benji Gregory’s family believes that he fell asleep in his car and that the summer temperatures prevailing in Arizona at the time were his downfall.
