Alfreider: steps, no bans now let’s focus on the electric – Bolzano

BOLZANO. “These levels of traffic, in the Dolomites, in the valleys, are unsustainable, I absolutely agree”. This was stated by the provincial councilor for mobility Daniel Alfreider, commenting on the results of the conference held yesterday at the Sheraton on the sustainable management of South Tyrolean mountain areas but not only.

The commissioner, however, is not there to receive criticism from di Alpenverein and Italian Alpine Club without replying. In the face of controversy and criticism that he says are not very constructive, it would rather be optimistic, collaborative, proactive.

As the Province of Bolzano, which it has set up, is doing a working group with neighboring regions. In a couple of months, proposals will be sent to Rome. Which will mainly focus on enhancement of public transport, electric, hydrogen, and the electric vehicle recharging network.

Councilor Alfreider, Ladin from Badia, confirms: «The current traffic levels in the Dolomites and in the South Tyrolean valleys are no longer acceptable, we too say so. In particular, I say this as a citizen of these valleys: it is no longer acceptable, we must do something to manage traffic flows, but not to prevent them with bans ».

The question, Alfreider clarifies, is much more complex than we want to trivialize it. A concrete example: “Only onAlpe di Siusi currently there are thirty-three thousand exceptions to the transit ban. Everyone has the right to pass ». Of the series, you want to prevent, but then there are the rights of owners, managers, farmers. Which even if you want it is not possible to ignore or circumvent.

«The reduction of traffic and the increase of sustainable mobility are the main points on which we are working.

I remember the work on the passes on the border with other regions. For the first time ever, we have set up a comparison table with Veneto and Trentino. Together we are designing the guidelines along which we will move in the future. We want to be optimistic, to propose projects ».

If there is even a request from the CAI and Alpenverein to close the Dolomite and non-Dolomite passes, Alfreider limits himself to commenting: “This proposal must be accompanied by an adaptation of the national legislation”. It is useless, Alfreider implies, to abstractly propose a solution, something that on a national basis is not possible, is not feasible, is not achievable. «Instead, we want to enhance those who live in the valleys, those who work in the valleys, those who come to spend their holidays in the valleys. We must work so that the transit traffic is reduced, that the viability is improved ».

The interregional working group, he continues, is working to find the right formula, «Also involving cableway mobility that already exists. If the cars are left in the valley and the existing facilities are used, so be it. That we only incentivize gondola lifts to do hoteliers a favor is not true. In Badia, in Gardena, no funding has been granted in this regard, however the plants are functioning and are an alternative. As far as new plants are concerned, it is another matter, if we can, we must talk about them ».

Alfreider, however, focuses on something else: “If we want to solve optimism and collaboration are needed. There is little to do, one cannot go against the highway code, the right of circulation must be guaranteed, if one works in another valley he must be able to reach it ». Alfreider, with Zeller, was the only one to work in Rome: “Thanks to a change in the form of an implementation rule to the Statute, we can introduce limitations between autonomous provinces.” But this cannot be applied with Veneto, for that it would require a regulatory intervention of a state nature. «Other than criticizing, the Cai, a national association of weight, intervenes at the state level to change the legislation. Let them put it into practice, let them help us ». Meanwhile, Bolzano Trento and the Veneto are preparing a project sheet: «A request for contributions to the ministry. It will be ready in a couple of months. We will go in the direction of sustainable mobility: strengthening the public service, purchasing many new electric vehicles, charging stations for electric cars ». DA.PA.
