Algeria calls on Libyans to strengthen national unity and overcome division

Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ammar Ben Jama, stressed “the need for the Libyan people to lead a political process aimed at creating conditions for holding transparent and comprehensive elections.”“.

During a press conference, Ben Jama stressed “the importance of the political process being owned and led by the Libyans themselves, with his full support for the efforts of the United Nations in this regard.”

Ben Jama indicated his concern about the continuation of the Libyan crisis due to the increasing foreign interference, which should stop immediately, stressing the necessity of working for national reconciliation in Libya, to enhance national unity and overcome divisions.

He also stressed the need to preserve the frozen Libyan assets and not seize them, demanding that they be used for the benefit of the Libyan people in the future.

Ben Jamaa explained that the sanctions regime imposed on Libya must be considered a protection mechanism aimed at creating the necessary conditions for peace, and not a punitive system.

Regarding the arms embargo decision, Ben Jama stressed the need to implement this decision in a real way to ensure Libya’s stability and achieve the desired political goals.
