Algerians will choose their president on Saturday, September 7, in elections in which 3 candidates will compete, including the current president, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, along with the candidate of the Front of Socialist Forces, Youssef Ouchish, and a candidate of the Movement for Peace Society, Abdelali Hassani Sharif.
After the legal period for the election campaigns that started on August 15 has expired, the “election silence” period begins from midnight on Tuesday until polling day, as specified in the country’s election law.
During that period, it is forbidden to publish and broadcast opinions and conduct a survey of voters’ intentions 72 hours before the date of the poll on the national territory and 5 days before the date of the poll for the national community living abroad.
The law also states that no one, regardless of the means and of any type, can campaign outside the prescribed period.
The Independent National Authority for Elections and the National Authority for Audiovisual Control in Algeria did not record any violations of the campaigns of the three candidates.
