Alison Felix postpones retirement to run women’s 4×400 relay at World Athletics Championships

EUGENE: Allyson Felix of the US has postponed her retirement to run the women’s 4×400 relay at the World Athletics Championships. The greatest sprinter in US history will return to the World Athletics Championships on Saturday to compete in the preliminaries of the women’s 4×400 relay. Allyson Felix decided to retire after helping the mixed relay team to a bronze medal last Friday. However, Allison abandoned his decision to retire at the request of the team management.

‘The coaches asked if I was available and there was no way I was going to turn down the team. When I got the call, I locked and refocused,’ explained Allison Felix. The preliminaries of the 4×400 relay will be held on Saturday. The final will be held on Sunday, the last day of the World Championship.’

A week ago, after running the second leg on the 4×400 mixed relay squad, Allyson Felix announced her retirement. Third place in the mixed relay gave Felix his 19th medal at the World Championships. Adding 11 Olympic medals, Allyson Felix’s total medal haul for the country will be 30.

At the Tokyo Olympics last year, Allyson Felix won the gold medal in the women’s 4×400 relay along with Sydney McLaughlin, Dalila Mohammed and Athing Mu. The quartet extended America’s Olympic gold medal haul to seven.
