Aida Beltran Sanchez, A councilwoman for the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in the Azcapotzalco municipality, was the victim of a shooting in Colonia Petrolera on Friday morning. The PRI member was injured in the attack, but is out of danger.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 8 a.m. this Friday, when Beltrán Sánchez was heading to a meeting with neighbors of the colony to discuss issues of security and community development.
Witnesses reported that a vehicle approached the councilor and, without saying a word, they opened fire. After the attack, the attackers fled.leaving Beltrán Sánchez injured on the public road.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene and transferred the PRI councilwoman to a nearby hospital, where she was immediately treated. Doctors reported that Aida Beltrán Sánchez is stable and out of danger, although she will remain under observation for a few more hours.
In response to the attack, PRI national president Alejandro Moreno expressed his outrage and condemned the attack.
“We condemn the cowardly shooting of our fellow PRI member, Councilwoman Aida Beltrán Sánchez, while she was in Colonia Petrolera in @AzcapotzalcoMx. It is unacceptable that acts of violence like this continue to occur in our streets, putting the lives of citizens at risk.
“We demand that the authorities carry out an exhaustive investigation and promptly arrest those responsible. We cannot allow violence and impunity to continue to mark the destiny of Mexico City,” Alito Moreno wrote on social media.
