The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) foresees 6.5 million road trips during the special device of the bridge on May 1, which begins this Friday at 3:00 p.m. and will last until midnight on May 1. Of this total, 14%, some 917,000, will be carried out in the northwest of the peninsula, including Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria.

In the Community of Madrid, the operation will continue until midnight on Tuesday, May 2, as this is a holiday in this community, as reported by the DGT.

The operation has the total availability of the means, both human (agents from the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, civil servants from the Traffic Management Centers, helicopter patrols and personnel in charge of maintaining equipment and installing measures on the road), as well as technicians (fixed and mobile speed control cameras, as well as helicopters, drones, cameras and camouflaged vans to control the use of mobile phones and seat belts) available to the DGT.

With these means, a series of traffic regulation, management and surveillance measures will be implemented with the aim of providing coverage to the important movement of vehicles that will take place these days and which includes both long and short distance journeys whose main destinations will be coastal and coastal tourist areas (mainly Andalusia and Levante), as well as mountain tourist areas and second homes.

This weekend the Spanish Motorcycling Grand Prix is also being held in Jerez, so motorcycle trips to this town in Cádiz will have special relevance, especially in the accesses to the Circuito de Jerez. Traffic has established a special regulation and surveillance device for this sporting event.

In addition, on Saturday the 29th the traditional April Fair in Seville also ends, so the accesses to the Seville city can increase their circulatory intensity.

With the aim of ensuring that the journey for the thousands of people who come to Jerez is safe and fluid, the General Directorate of Traffic has prepared a special device for monitoring and helping traffic in the surroundings of the Circuito de Jerez in which almost 300 agents from the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, 50 officials from the DGT and 85 installation and maintenance technicians for special measures.

In addition, special surveillance points will be established for the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard in Andalusia, Ciudad Real and Badajoz to avoid risky behavior, with special attention to the use of a helmet and seat belt, speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and illegal overtaking, reckless or negligent driving, in which some 450 agents of the Group participate.

In the zone of influence of the celebration of the circuit, the Unit of Air Resources of the DGT will carry out tasks of surveillance and regulation of the circulation from the air, counting for this with helicopters and gifts. Night surveillance flights will be developed; as well as denouncing all kinds of infractions, including speed, by recording images.

The maximum speed at which you can drive will also be monitored automatically by the fixed and section speed cameras installed on the road. In addition, the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard will establish surveillance points in the morning, afternoon and night periods to guarantee compliance with the established speed limits.

Alcohol and drug controls in the vicinity of the circuit will also be increased starting tomorrow to discourage consumption and driving.

In a complementary way, the Grand Prix weekend coincides with the end of the Seville Fair, so special attention will be paid to surveillance actions on the communication routes between both events. Special attention will also be paid to the coincidence with the Special Operation “May 1, 2023”, especially on the access and exit roads of the Circuit such as the AP-4.

recommendations

The traffic forecasts prepared by Tráfico contemplate that the greatest increases in vehicles will take place on Friday the 28th in the afternoon (especially between 4 and 11 p.m.) and Saturday the 29th in the morning (between 9 and 2 p.m.) in the direction out of the large urban centers.

On the way back, complications can arise in the direction of the cities, on Monday 1 (between 4 and 11 p.m.) in all communities except Madrid, which due to its festivity, is delayed until Tuesday 2 May (between 1:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.).

In order to favor circulation in the most conflictive areas on each of these four days, the DGT has planned, among other measures, the installation of reversible and additional lanes with cones and beaconing in the hours of greatest traffic flow and the establishment of alternative routes .

Likewise, works on the roads will be stopped, the holding of sports events and other events that involve the occupation of the road will be limited and the movement of trucks in general and those that transport dangerous goods will be restricted, as well as special transport in certain sections, dates and times.
