A fire broke out in the premises of radio 7/7 FM, located in Coronthie, in the commune of Kaloum in Conakry.
During this tragedy which occurred on Monday, September 16, 2024, significant material damage was caused.
For Banfa Camara, deputy coordinator of the said radio, the desolation is great. “We were woken up by a call at 9am saying that there was smoke rising to the fourth floor of our building. When we arrived, we found that the fire had consumed everything. The main studio went up in smoke, the newsroom too. A lot of equipment was destroyed by the fire,” he said.
According to our interlocutor, this loss is not a first in the space of a year. “When there was the fire at the Kaloum hydrocarbon depot, the radio was a victim. So, the radio was off the air. The radio had not broadcast for months. This morning, we woke up to find that there was another fire. But we cannot give the reason for this other one. Since there was no power, it was not a short circuit. We have lost billions here.
A printer, a refrigerator and a power supply were also reported missing, prompting the media company to call the authorities.
“We are conducting our investigations. We even started this morning. We went to make a statement to file a complaint against unknown persons at the police station. People with bad intentions are still being singled out, even if we don’t know who,” Banfa said.
This official took the opportunity to launch an appeal “an appeal to the authorities and to people of good will so that the radio can get back on its feet.”
