(LaPresse) He was the king of Queens and his crown could be yours, at the right price. The extensive collection of costumes, artwork and even the handwritten lyrics of Freddie Mercury’s ‘We Are the Champions’ and ‘Killer Queen’ will be auctioned off in September. The Queen frontman left everything to his close friend, Mary Austin, when she died of pneumonia caused by AIDS in 1991. Austin, who kept most of the items just as Mercury had left them at his home in London’s posh borough of Kensington, said it made the “difficult decision” to sell everything, Sotheby’s said. ‘We are the Champions’, which Mercury wrote on nine pages, including British Midland Airways letterhead, is estimated at 200-300 thousand euros. Instead the crown is said to be based on the St Edward’s Crown. A Mercury fan on a more limited budget might want to consider its silver mustache comb from Tiffany & Co. Expected price is 450-650 euros. (LaPresse/Ap)
