On Saturday, more than one national record can fall in Vingios Park in Vilnius – and not only in Lithuania. The national records of Sweden, Poland and Lithuania can be improved in the “The World’s Fastest Run powered by Nord Security” run.

World record holder Aleksandars Sorokinas, who will not be able to run this time due to an injury, believes that R. Kanchys will improve the national record, and the athlete of the United States of America, Charlie Lawrence, claims to crown him in the world ranking of 100 kilometers running.

The American holds the world record for 50 miles (80.5 km) and now he has made no secret of his ambitions to cover 100 kilometers in less than six hours. The world record belonging to A. Sorokin – 6 hours. 5 minutes and 35 sec.

The Lithuanian 50-kilometer running record also belongs to a Vilnius native (2 hours 53 minutes and 51 seconds). The best result of R. Kantis so far is 2 hours. 54 min. and 5 sec.

“I know at what speed I will have to run if I want to improve the national record,” said R. Kanchys. – I trust the idea of my entire preparation for the run. I believe she will prove herself on Saturday. I will have to cover each kilometer in 3 minutes. 28-29 sec. The pace may not be super high, but something can always happen on the track. It will be interesting.”

When asked if he does not feel psychological pressure before the run, R. Kančys said firmly: “All stress disappears after the starting shot.”

“And then it’s just you and the distance!” – laughed the runner. – Up to forty kilometers, there are fewer conversations with yourself. When the “difficulties” start, you have to start encouraging yourself… More, more… To be honest, then I’m not very polite with myself. It turns into a tantrum: nothing seems to exist anymore – you and the pain. Accept it as a natural state. The body screams that enough is enough, and the mind screams back that enough will come after the finish. This is the battle going on. Sometimes the body wins, but most of the time the mind wins.”

Runners will run in a circle of 1850 meters in Vingis Park. According to R. Kančis, this will be a new experience for him.

“I’m not afraid of numbers, I’m afraid of circles… This is my Achilles heel,” laughed R. Kanchys. – It will be interesting how my head will take it. I’m used to running, say, laps that are 5 kilometers long. 10 laps… When I was running sixth, I was already thinking how many more were left, and now it will be interesting to see how I will be able to make friends with the entire amount of laps.”

We remind you that “The World’s Fastest Run powered by Nord Security” will take place on September 7 in Vingios Park. The race will feature elite runners from around the world. The organizers invite you to Vingis Park to watch the fastest run in the world.
