Parents could be hit hard financially if the decision is upheld.
Parents will look gloomy. Although several increases have already been announced for 2025, a new one could soon be added that will hit their wallets hard. This is unexpected to say the least and hasn’t made any noise, although it is starting to be on its way to adoption. A new blow if this were to be confirmed in the days to come…
Often, throughout the year, parents and grandparents keep their children busy with various activities, which generally cost money, and which already represent a certain budget. Not all families can afford to provide recreational activities for their children. Have you already found the prices high? It’s not over. Prices are likely to skyrocket from January 1st. The bill could sting.
On Wednesday afternoons, weekends or even during school holidays, it is not uncommon to take your children to indoor playgrounds, climbing trees, playing laser or escape, paintball, go-karting or any other similar activity. However, these outings have a certain cost, which easily reaches twenty euros per child depending on age. The family outing can therefore add up quickly. And in 2025 this figure could even increase.
While the government searches for new revenue, the idea of increasing VAT on leisure activities is being put forward. Currently the state receives 10% on each entry. In a few weeks perhaps he will receive 20%. The idea was formulated by MP Philippe Juvin and will be examined in Parliament after many other elected representatives approved the proposal in a first phase.
These would be “exhibitions, places and installations of a recreational nature”, i.e. all the activities mentioned above, but also museums, monuments and historic buildings (Eiffel Tower for example), parks and botanical gardens or even all types of leisure parks. entertainment (including Disneyland Paris and Parc Astérix). For a price range ranging from 10 to 50 euros, this would lead to an increase in prices of 1 to 5 euros per ticket, and the increase in the tax would inevitably have an impact on the price paid by the visitor.
The proposal will still have to be submitted to the vote of deputies and senators, as well as to the approval of the government. If this could generate between 100 and 300 million euros in additional revenue for the state, families should think twice more before organizing such an activity.
