Serious allegations against Alexander Zverev: On July 7, the Berlin public prosecutor applied for a penalty order against the Olympic tennis champion for bodily harm. The Tiergarten district court confirmed this to the SID. Accordingly, the public prosecutor’s office sees “sufficient suspicion”, the court must now decide “on the basis of the files” whether it shares “the assessment of the public prosecutor’s office”, it said in the statement on Wednesday. Mischa Zverev, who is involved in his brother’s management, could not initially be reached for a statement by the SID.

The allegedly injured person is Zverev’s ex-partner Brenda Patea. This was confirmed by her management. “Furthermore, we would like to clarify that Ms. Patea has not made any financial claims against Mr. Zverev,” it said in a statement.

The district court made it clear about the procedure: “Unlike with a regular indictment, the public prosecutor’s office does not first apply to the court for a main hearing, but directly for the imposition of a penalty in writing.” This can be a fine or a maximum of one year’s imprisonment, suspended on probation, act. According to RTL, the fine is a sum of 480,000 euros.

Zverev is not facing allegations for the first time. His ex-partner Olga Scharypowa had reported in several interviews about alleged violent attacks by Zverev, who defended himself with his lawyers and always protested his innocence. He later reported on a restraining order against Sharypova.

The player organization ATP acquitted Zverev after an independent investigation. In its statement, the district court expressly referred to the presumption of innocence for Zverev (26). Information “about the allegedly injured person” could not be communicated “at the present time”.
