Actor Claims He Was Drugged and Robbed by Uber Driver in Chile
Thursday night proved a harrowing experience for Chilean actor Gonzalo Valenzuela, who shared a chilling tale of being drugged and robbed by a fraudulent Uber driver.
Valenzuela recounted the events of the night, explaining that he hailed a vehicle he believed to be an enforcement vehicle. However, the driver allegedly drugged him and stole his credit card.
“I thought I was getting into an enforcement vehicle,” Valenzuela said. “But the driver drugged me and stole my credit card.”
The actor elaborated that after boarding the vehicle, he has no recollection of how he got home. His wife, Kika Silva, confirmed his memory lapse, stating, “I don’t remember how I got home after boarding the vehicle.”
The incident occurred when Valenzuela and Silva were out with friends. Feeling the effects of the drug, Valenzuela and his companions decided to continue their meeting in a different location.
When Valenzuela eventually decided to go home, he encountered a suspicious car offering him an Uber. Despite his initial suspicions, he trusted the driver and got into the vehicle.
The driver offered Valenzuela a bottle of water, which he accepted. However, the driver then informed him that he would be charged 7,000 pesos. When Valenzuela attempted to pay, his card was declined. The driver allegedly suggested he input his PIN, leading Valenzuela to believe his card had been compromised.
Valenzuela eventually convinced the driver to stop at a gas station, where he withdrew cash to pay the alleged debt. However, upon reaching the ATM, he realized his card had been stolen and replaced with another.
The actor discovered the next morning that he had been the victim of a sophisticated scam, with his credit card compromised for 400,000 Chilean pesos.
Valenzuela’s harrowing experience serves as a cautionary tale, urging people to be vigilant when utilizing ride-sharing services and to be aware of potential scams.
