The police arrested 7 people, including 5 northern state workers, on the charge of tying up a laborer from Salem district and assaulting them for 2 days near Choolagiri.

A new vegetable and fruit processing plant is being constructed at Chinnaru area near Chulagiri in Krishnagiri district. Mani from Hosur area is running as the contractor for this construction work.

There, Narayanan from Uthangarai area of ​​Krishnagiri district took sub-contract to build a water tank and worked with Prabhakaran before Pongal. While the rest of the work was there, the work had not yet begun.

In this situation, he told his nephew Prabhakaran (33), who lives in Kandanur near Mechery in Salem district, that there is a job in Chinnar to go and look for work.

“They tied him up and beat him up”

After that, Prabhakaran went to Chinnar last Friday and stayed there and worked. In this situation, on the 28th, Prabhakaran was sitting near the wire fence in that area at night. At that time Supervisor Thangaraj and 5 youths from North State came from Elagiri.

According to the police, they saw Prabhakaran and tied him up with a rope, thinking that he had come to steal iron goods. They also said that they called the building owner and informed about it.

Intimidation by sending a video

The police said that they tied Prabhakaran in a room in the area and beat him barragely with an iron rod, in which Prabhakaran sustained serious injuries.

It is also said that they threatened to kill him if he did not give him the iron goods. Speaking to BBC Tamil, Narayanan said that he took a video of the attack and sent it to Narayanan in Uthangarai, threatening to “give me the iron items he took, or else pay 1 lakh 50 thousand rupees”. Speaking to BBC Tamil about the incident, Narayanan said, “He and his nephew Prabhakaran worked at ARC Construction until before Pongal”. He also said, “We searched for Prabhakaran on the 28th as he was missing on the 27th.”

He said, “A video of Prabhakaran being tied up and attacked by North Indians was sent to my mobile phone by ARC Construction Company around 7 pm last Saturday.

The company called me on the phone and told me that Prabhakaran had stolen a wire worth one and a half lakh rupees and asked me to give him the money and take him away. I reported this to Krishnagiri District Superintendent of Police at 11 am yesterday,” he said.

Based on the complaint, the Chulagiri police registered a case and brought back his nephew at 2 pm yesterday, he said.

“He was not given food for two days, his hands and feet were tied and he was beaten by the North Indians who worked there. His right leg and arm were broken. He was also beaten in his left eye and is being treated at the Krishnagiri Government Medical College Hospital,” they told the BBC. Speaking to BBC Tamil about the incident, Choulagiri Police Department said, “On the warrant of the District Superintendent of Police, they rescued Prabhakaran, who was tied up with a rope and confined in a container room at ARC Company in Chinnar.”

Also, they took him in an ambulance van and sent him to Krishnagiri Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.

In this regard, after receiving a complaint from Prabhakaran and registering a case, contractor Mani (47) from Hosur Saptagiri city, supervisor Thangaraj (33), Shyam Sundar (46) from Uttar Pradesh state, Balender (28), Sushilkumar (24), Arjun (24) from Assam state. Tippandar Sokiya (22) has arrested 7 people.

They said that a case has been registered against the arrested persons under various sections including death threats, assault and obscenity.
