Madurai: Canal rehabilitation work worth Rs. 100 crore is going to be done under the watershed project under Sathyayar and Southyar sub-watershed circles.
Vaigai Watershed District Monitoring Engineer Palaniswami said: Rs. 70 crore for the repair of 30 km long Periyar main canal, 20 km each, 12 long branch canals under Sathyayar sub-watershed, and Rs. 30 crore to be allocated. As water is now being released for irrigation through these canals, the preparatory work will begin in March 2023 after the harvest in January and February, he said.
