The attack was disguised as a fake promotion that was spread mainly through WhatsApp links during the month of November, in the weeks leading up to Black Friday. The recipient of the message was offered an opportunity to complete a survey, which led to an offer of free gifts on Amazon. Upon completion of the survey, the recipient was directed to the page where he was instructed to book financial information that includes credit card information. NetworkSecure blocked communication with the websites that hosted the fake promotion, freeing the protected customers from having to decide whether to click on the dangerous link.
