(Alma) The security perimeter has been widened in Alma, in Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean, where a suspicious package in a residence has been keeping the police on their toes Wednesday since 3 pm.
The operation even gained momentum, late in the evening, when new information led the police to believe that a person could well be inside the residence in question on avenue du Pont Sud.
“It is indeed a possibility that there is a person inside,” said Sergeant Hugues Beaulieu, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec reached on site, by phone, around 10 pm. The circumstances that led the police to this location have still not been clarified so as not to interfere with the ongoing investigation.
“It was initially a suspicious package. The Sûreté du Québec tactical intervention group as well as the Sûreté du Québec explosives technicians are on site, ”said Sergeant Beaulieu.
If the security perimeter has been widened, there have however been few evacuations near this residence which is located near an industrial sector.
Avenue du Pont Sud, which is in fact Route 169, is now closed to traffic between Rue de la Croix and Route du Lac Ouest. A detour has been set up in the Saint-Pierre district for people who know the area.
The operation was still ongoing.
