Brazilian Almir dos Santos Falls Short in Paris Triple Jump Final
Brazilian Almir dos Santos finished in 11th place in the triple jump final at the Paris Olympic Games on Friday. Despite three attempts, the athlete was unable to achieve a mark sufficient to qualify for the final three jumps.
The event, held at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, saw Almir become the first of the 12 finalists to jump. His first attempt yielded a disappointing 16.41m. In his second attempt, a foul marred his qualification hopes.
Needing a mark of 17 meters to progress, Almir failed to surpass this mark in his final attempt, finishing with 16.28m. This outcome ended his hopes of securing the final three jumps, which were awarded to the top eight-placed athletes.
This result marked Brazil’s first final appearance in the triple jump in 16 years. Despite the setback, Brazil holds the most medals in the event, with a total of six.
