A sports coupé presented to the world for the first time in 1969 and, more than 17 years (it stopped being produced in 1986), through the introduction of a generation, the Capri remained in the memory of the fans of the blue oval brand and beyond over, on his way. marked by an era. Including, in motorsport, three wins, twice in a row (1971/1972), the European Touring Car Championship.

However, after an absence of about 38 years, the Ford the name recovers, although it is a very different proposal, but in line with the current trends: SUV, Coupé, and electric.
Derived from Explorer
Produced at the North American manufacturer’s plant in Cologne, Germany (the same one, in fact, where the original model destined for Europe was produced), this new Capri is based not only on the electric vehicle platform acquired by Ford from Volkswagen of Germany (MEB platform), as part of the last oval electric car to hit the market: the Explorer. It should be said that the new Capri will be produced alongside the proposal.
With the same wheelbase of 2,770 mm, the Capri, however, has an aesthetic that is not as “boxy” as the Explorer, but much more sporty, with a fastback-type rear end, from which some elements are added to the original model.

Not forgetting the rear lighting, reminiscent of the MK3.
But if, on the outside, the new Capri certainly has its own charm, even for those who have never heard of the original version, inside, the identities have much more to do with the Explorer. Starting with the 14.6″ central screen, and the area hidden behind it, with reminders of the first Capri seen on the steering wheel, with a reminiscent decoration on the handlebars with perforated metal arms, as found in special versions of the Capri RS2600.
With rear-wheel drive … and all-wheel drive
Also like the original Capri, the thing is that this new crossover coupé has standard rear-wheel drive, with a multi-link axle and an electric motor capable of offering 286 hp of power, capable of accelerations from 0 to 100 a guarantee km/h 6.4 seconds. In other words, numbers that aren’t worthy of yesterday’s V6 coupé engine could advertise…
As far from the ambitions of any of the MKs, the all-wheel drive version, provided by a configuration of two electric motors, delivers a combined power of 340 hp and, in this way, reaches 100 km/hi in 5.3 seconds. . Although and when he chooses more adrenaline, the customer is also forced to lose some autonomy, since, with a larger battery (79 kWh) than the original version (77 kWh), the Capri also becomes heavier (2,174 kg , compared to 2,098 kg). for the single-engine version)…and wasted.
According to data released by Ford, the Capri with a 77 kWh battery should be able to travel up to 627 km, while with the 79 kWh battery, one battery charge should not allow more than 592 km.
However, with the latter, it will always be possible to recharge a little faster, thanks to the ability to take powers of up to 185 kW, compared to “only” 135 kW for the original. Even if, taking the manufacturer’s figures, a difference of two minutes (26 minutes for 79 kWh, against 28 minutes for 77 kWh) cannot be considered a big advantage, in terms of recovery from 10 to 80% capacity. ..
Equipment to taste
As for the standard equipment, the promise of presence, in the original version, added value as two-zone air conditioning, front seats adjustable in 12 positions and with a heating and massage system, folding and heated exterior mirrors with the ability to project. Capri image on the floor, keyless entry and start, wireless charging system for smartphones and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto pairing.
