Jack Doohan and Alpine F1 Part Ways, Future Uncertain

Alpine has confirmed the end of its relationship with Jack Doohan, leaving the Australian driver’s Formula 1 future in question. The decision, reached through a mutual agreement, concludes Doohan’s tenure with the team and opens the door for him to explore other racing opportunities.

“Alpine confirms that it has reached a mutual agreement with Jack Doohan not to continue his services for the team in the 2026 Formula 1 season and to allow him to pursue other career opportunities,” a team spokesperson stated.

Doohan, 22, experienced a brief stint as a full-time F1 driver with Alpine, stepping in for Esteban Ocon at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He was subsequently confirmed for the 2025 season, marking a significant milestone as the first graduate of the Alpine Academy to secure a race seat with the team. However, his return to the cockpit proved short-lived.

After six races without scoring points, Doohan was replaced by Franco Colapinto. Despite Colapinto also failing to secure points in the remaining races, he was retained alongside Pierre Gasly for the 2026 season, effectively closing off Doohan’s immediate path back to a full-time Formula 1 drive.

The decision underscores the competitive pressures within the sport and the high stakes associated with performance. Doohan’s early struggles highlighted the challenges of transitioning into a full-time F1 role, even with the backing of a major team’s development program.

His career trajectory now faces a critical juncture. In December, Doohan participated in a test with the Japanese Super Formula series, but the experience was marred by a series of crashes. He reportedly crashed heavily three times in consecutive days at the Suzuka International Racing Course, a track where he had previously encountered difficulties during Formula 1 training.

Rumors have also circulated regarding a potential move to Haas as a reserve driver, fueled by Doohan’s existing relationship with Toyota, which serves as a title sponsor for the US-based team. While these possibilities remain speculative, they represent potential avenues for Doohan to remain connected to the Formula 1 world.

The son of five-time motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan, Jack now faces the task of charting a new course for his racing career. The next steps remain unclear, but the motorsport community will be watching closely to see where this talented driver lands.
