It’s the sensation of the day: at 29 years old, the French Cyprien Sarrazin offered himself, at the end of a very high level race, the first descent of his career on the demanding Stelvio track in Bormio (Italy). He is the 11th Frenchman to win this discipline in the World Cup, the first since Adrien Théaux in Santa Catarina in 2015. But it was Luc Alphand, in 1996, the last French winner in Bormio.

Starting with bib number 4 on his back, Cyprien Sarrazin delivered an impressive performance, with careful trajectories and good speed at the end of the course. Above all, his first place resisted the visits of the behemoths of the discipline, including Marco Odermatt.

Although the Swiss passed in front at all the intermediate points, he finally finished second, 0”09 behind the Frenchman. Canadian Cameron Alexander completes the podium, more than a second behind the leading duo. “I finally had a perfect round. I felt very good. By crossing the line, I knew that I had done the job, rejoiced the Haut-Alpin at the microphone of Eurosport.

Cyprien Sarrazin arrived as an outsider, after dominating the first training session on Tuesday. Already winner of the Alta Badia parallel in 2016, the Haut-Alpin has continued its rapid progression since the restart. Last week, he finished just off the podium in the Super-G in Val Gardena.
