BOLZANO. In the presence of the Commander of the Ground Operational Forces, General Gaetano Zaunerthe ceremony which saw General Michele Risi take over from General Ignazio Gamba as Commander of the Alpine Troops took place in Bolzano.

Gamba, who leaves active service after 42 yearswanted to highlight in his farewell speech how the Alpine Troops and the Army represent a reality that every Alpine and Soldier should be proud to be part of. “A hierarchical-functional organizational structure – he said – that intervenes effectively in every situation, as attested by the multiple and increasingly varied national and international operational commitments in which we are called to participate, also in support of other organizations or in specific emergencies. A constant guarantee for the country, a force on which we can always rely”.

Risi, former deputy commander of the Alpine Troopstook up the coveted baton by emphasizing the future challenges imposed by international scenarios and the importance of training, participatory innovation and the promotion of values. These fundamental elements are crucial to face the new challenges together with the other Armed Forces. With “alpine spirit, it intends to face the new challenges with awareness, responsibility and conscience”, he added.
