BOLZANO. The Rittner Buam SkyAlps are champions of the Alps Hockey League for the second time in the history of the South Tyrolean club. In the fourth match of the final series, Buam prevailed 3:0 over SG Cortina Hafro, giving the Collalbo team a 4:0 success in the final series. For Renon this is the second success in the Alps after winning the first edition of the transnational tournament in the 16/17 season and Cortina’s second consecutive defeat in the final. Last year the Ampezzo team had been beaten by the Slovenian team Jesenice 4 to 2 in the series.

In a very balanced fourth match of the final, the hosts Cortina were the team that dictated the tone of the game for long stretches, while Renon managed to make sporadic offensive outings. For example after ten minutes in the first period, when the guests had a great opportunity. Also in the second period Cortina was found mainly in attack, but the “Buam” defended themselves skilfully and launched a perfect counterattack in the 37th minute, which Eric Hjorth transformed into 1:0 for the guests. For the Swedish defender it was the first goal and point in the final series. Cortina tried everything again in the final period, but always found a Colin Furlong in great form. The Renon goalkeeper saved all 30 shots on his goal. In the 58th minute, the guests once again made one of their dangerous advances and Julian Kostner scored to make it 2:0. Jakob Prast scored the final goal with five seconds left in the game.

The statements from Rittner Buam SkyAlps on the Alps victory: Simon Kostner (captain Rittner Buam SkyAlps): “It’s fantastic, I’ve never had so much fun as I have this season. The team is crazy, of course it’s easier when you win. We have fun between us and we brought this fun to the matches too. The result of the final series is clearer than the values on the pitch. It was hard fought, we simply scored. We train all year for a title… we deserved it.” Colin Furlong (Rittner Buam SkyAlps goalie): “Winning the title was our goal and we achieved it. The shutout in the last game? The credit goes not only to me, but to the whole team. Without my men it wouldn’t have happened. Now let’s celebrate!” Eric Hjorth (Rittner Buam SkyAlps defender): “I joined the team in February and found a nice group with whom I had a lot of fun. Rittner Buam are a great team. We deserved it!” Tray Tuomie (Rittner Buam SkyAlps coach): “You can say that this season has been perfect. Congratulations to the whole team. From day one we showed that we are the best team in the Alps Hockey League and in the end we also proved it.”
