Doha – Along with the excitement of the World Cup football, Saudi citizen Abdullah Al Salami walked 1,600 kilometers to Qatar and became a sign of friendship and unity between the countries.
Qatar also prepared a warm welcome for salami. Al Salami ended his walk by reaching the square where the national flag of Saudi Arabia is installed at the Flag Plaza on the Doha Corniche. Al Salami, who came on foot to fuel the World Cup spirit, was given a warm welcome by Qatar at the Doha Corniche.
The journey started from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on September 9 and took 55 days to cover 1,600 km to reach Qatar. Last day, Al Salami reached the Abu Samra border crossing, which is the land border of Qatar with Saudi Arabia, and reached the Doha Corniche on foot. Al Salami was welcomed by people on his journey from Abu Samra to Doha.
Many people came to cheer Al Salami with flowers and food. Al Salami responded that he was surprised by the reception and support. Al Salami said that behind the determination to reach Qatar on foot is the thought that Saudi Arabia should adopt a different style to watch the Saudi match in the first FIFA World Cup in the Arab world and it should become a sign of brotherly relationship and unity with Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
