STORY – The French manufacturer took an important step on Tuesday towards the commissioning of autonomous trains.

A world first, of French origin, in autonomous trains. This Tuesday, a demonstrator of a “shunting train”, that is to say a locomotive used to move wagons and container ships and assemble freight trains, carried out a series of operations without human intervention. The demonstration took place in Breda, the Netherlands. It associated Alstom, the French manufacturer of the TGV, TER, metros and other trams, with the Dutch infrastructure manager ProRail and the Belgian operator Lineas.

The locomotive started, rolled, managed obstacles on the track and completed its mission completely independently. This, thanks to its automation systems, its intelligent vision sensors and its radars. “This demonstration shows that Alstom masters the technologies and the know-how so that shunting trains ”see” and react safely to an unexpected situation without any human intervention “, welcomes Jean-François Beaudoin, president of “digital solutions”…
