That’s what it’s about

Vreni Herger donates hair braids to an organization that makes wigs for children with cancer.

In her hair salon she offers to cut long hair into braids in order to donate it.

She has now been able to donate hair more than 50 times.

Self-employed hairdresser Vroni Herger decided she wanted to do more than just cut hair. After a short research, she came across the non-profit organization “Haarfee”. The organization makes wigs for children with cancer and collects real hair for them. Herger then decided to donate to the organization herself.

“Some people grow their hair extra”

In her small shop “Haarkult”, she has been regularly cutting hair into braids for several years now in order to then donate it. “It has always been my desire to do more with my hair than just throw it away,” says Herger. First she went public and wanted to spread her idea. In autumn 2018 she cut her first hair for a donation. Soon more and more customers came to her to have their hair cut for a good cause. “Some people grow their hair specifically to do something good.”

“It gives me deep satisfaction”

To donate a braid, the hair must be real and not chemically treated. For one wig the organization needs about five braids. Herger says: “It gives me deep satisfaction to do something social.” This means she can do more than just cut hair. Herger has now donated to the organization over 50 times.

Braid from 1968

The youngest customer who donated hair was around ten years old. The oldest customer cut off her own braid several years ago. Shortly after Herger began donating hair, an older woman came to her store. She had a braid wrapped in newspaper. Herger says: “I looked at the braid and noticed that the newspaper the hair was wrapped in was from 1968. At that time, the lady had cut off her hair and kept the braid for over 50 years.” She came to Herger because she finally knew what to do with her saved hair. “The hair was perfectly preserved,” says Herger.
