Israelis looking for alternative vacation destinations after being banned from Maldives

In the wake of the recent ban on Israelis entering the Maldives, many are already looking for alternative vacation destinations. The ban was introduced in the local parliament following the conflict in Gaza, prompting Israeli tourists to consider other options for their vacations.

Yoni Waxman, vice-chairman of Ofir Tours, stated, “The Maldives has become a popular destination in recent years, but there are other exotic countries that cater to this type of vacation, such as the Caribbean, the Philippines, Seychelles, and Sri Lanka. Many Israelis are also booking separate flights to European destinations and traveling elsewhere from there.”

Shirley Cohen Orkabi, VP of Esht Tours, added, “Instead of the Maldives, destinations such as Thailand, Seychelles, Zanzibar, and Sri Lanka are gaining ground. We anticipate that more direct flights to these exotic destinations will be added after the war ends.”

Tali Yativ, CEO of Spirit World Productions, suggested, “In 2024, we may not be able to fly direct flights to the Maldives, but there are plenty of exotic countries in good relations with Israel where you can vacation. Among them are the Seychelles and Mauritius, which are not Muslim countries and appreciate Israeli tourism.”

The cost of these alternative destinations varies, with packages to the Seychelles starting at $1,690 per person, and flights to Thailand and the Philippines starting at $900. Despite the ban from the Maldives, Israelis are exploring a range of options for their future vacations.

The ban on Israelis entering the Maldives comes after the country’s parliament sided with Gaza in the conflict and has led to a surge in interest in other exotic destinations among Israeli tourists. Despite the ban, it is still possible for Israelis to visit the Maldives by obtaining an entry visa at the airport via a third country. It remains to be seen whether the ban will be lifted in the future, but for now, Israelis are already planning their next vacation destinations.
