Alumni short film wins award at Marina Del Rey Film Festival

The film “A Portion of Cholera”, produced by Filmworks alumnus, Gabriel Vidalwas awarded at the Marina Del Rey Film Festival, held in Los Angeles, California. The short film won the title of Best Short Film in a Foreign Language (Best Foreign Language Short) among a selection of 400 productions, being shown in a movie theater during the festival.

Gabriel expressed his satisfaction upon receiving the award. “Winning one of the main awards at Marina del Rey, in Los Angeles, is very rewarding. It’s nice to have your work recognized by people you’re not close to, or from other countries, from other contexts. It shows that the film manages to communicate something that touches audiences around the world in some way.”

Additionally, the short’s producer and Filmworks alumnus, Daniel Camargoalso received the award of Best Producer no Absurd Film Festival 2023, in Italy.

The film, produced in the first semester of the course, was also highlighted in the 14º Festival RNAB “Revealing New Brazilian Actors”, being selected as a Quarter-Finalist.

“I am very proud to see our Filmworks 1 project, first semester, already running festivals and gathering awards and selections. Shows what the whole course can offer opportunities to create works that sustain themselves in the market and has a life of its own after completion. I am excited to see how far this film can fly, and confident with the next projects being finalized”, shared Gabriel.

Synopsis

Rising semi-star YouTuber Theo is summoned on a date with his ex-wife, Helena. The former couple meet in a rather strange bar and create some chaos, and as they discuss their past and current affairs, the Bartender tries to change them. His actions will lead to a difficult choice (at least for them) that neither of them could ever imagine.
