The Salvadoran singer-songwriter, Álvaro Torres, will be named this Friday afternoon as “Goodwill Ambassador on a Special Mission for migrant girls and boys,” reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The President of the Republic, Salvador Sánchez Cerén, will attend the appointment of Torres as Goodwill Ambassador.

«With this appointment, the Salvadoran government begins the second phase of the “Don’t put their lives at risk” campaign, which was launched on July 15 with the purpose of raising awareness about the dangers to which girls are exposed, children and adolescents who migrate irregularly and unaccompanied to the United States,” said the Foreign Ministry.

Torres is already in the country and sang the notes of the National Anthem at a civic event that took place with different students at the Presidential House.

The Salvadoran artist has stood out internationally with original songs such as “Nothing compares to you”, “El Ultimo Romantic”, “Buenos Amigos” (a duet with the late singer Selena) and “Reencuentro”, a song he performed with the Barrios Boyzz.

Several artists such as José Luis Rodríguez “El Puma”, Eddy Santiago, Maelo Ruíz, Tito Nieves, among others have performed great hits by Torres, who was born in Usulután in 1954.
