Pad brand Always is being accused of dehumanizing women in the United Kingdom. This is because, in a leaflet about puberty distributed in schools, the brand called women and girls “bodies with female sexual organs”. The brand is a leader in the sale of feminine hygiene products, but, in order not to displease transsexuals, did not use the words “woman” or “girl” anywhere in her puberty pamphlet. Instead, the brand prioritized using “person”, “people” and “child”, English unisex word for son or child.
“Sadly, this is yet another example of companies trying to erase women and disregard their needs in their haste to appease trans activists,” said Milli Hill, author of the book best-seller about female puberty My Period.
In the pamphlet, Always says that the menstrual cycle “is the sequence of events that takes place inside a person with female sex organs as her body prepares for the possibility of pregnancy each month.”
The pamphlet is part of a kit of puberty, which has pads and is called Puberty and Confidence Guide for Everyone. “Always & Tampax have teamed up to provide you with kits puberty programs for schools with all the tools to address the topic of puberty and puberty education with your students, including free samples of Always, supporting them through their physical and emotional changes and increasing their confidence and self-esteem”, says the brand in its official website. “I think girls will struggle to understand how this relates to their own body and their own experience,” said one teacher, who asked the Daily Mail not to have his identity disclosed by the press. She fears being accused of transphobia.
“’Bodies with female sex organs’ may not be immediately identifiable as a girl in a child’s understanding, especially if English is not their first language or if the child has additional learning needs,” said the teacher.
