Alysha Newman continues her podium streak in pole vault.

Bronze medalist in Paris 2024, she climbed back onto the podium at the Diamond League Weltklasse athletics meeting in Zurich, Switzerland. This time, the Canadian cleared 4.82 m to win silver. Australia’s Nina Kennedy took gold with a jump of 4.87 m, while American Katie Moon also cleared 4.82 m, but with more attempts than Newman.

The event took place at Zurich’s central station, the largest railway station in Switzerland, providing a unique atmosphere for athletes and fans.

As Zurich is the last qualifying stop for the Diamond League meeting final in Brussels, this performance secures Newman a spot in the final. Only the top six athletes will compete for the title in Brussels on September 14.

This success adds to another post-Olympic performance, where she also stood on the podium at the Diamond League meeting in Rome on August 30. In Rome, Newman cleared 4.73 m, finishing behind American Sandi Morris (4.83 m) and Nina Kennedy (4.83 m).

Newman holds the Canadian record for women’s pole vault. In Paris 2024, she broke her own Canadian record of 4.82 m by clearing 4.85 m, which earned her the bronze medal.
