According to new findings, dementia researchers are relying on AI and biomarkers to make an early diagnosis. The progress could also significantly improve the effectiveness of new therapeutic approaches.

In Germany, around 1.6 million people suffer from dementia, with Alzheimer’s being the most common form, accounting for 65 percent. It often begins gradually and is characterized by a progressive loss of memory and cognitive function. Early detection and preventive measures are crucial to slowing down the progression of the disease and maintaining the quality of life of those affected. This is exactly where the latest research results presented at the congress of the German Society for Neurology (DGN) come into play.

Changes in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients begin up to twenty years before the first symptoms appear. The cause is believed to be the deposits of amyloid and tau proteins in the brain.
