(ANSA) – ROME, SEPTEMBER 16 – In the ASL Roma 3, care services have been strengthened to deal with cases of dementia.
Among the residents of the ASL, about 600 thousand inhabitants, according to regional estimates, there are about 10,600 cases of full-blown dementia, mostly involving people over 65 years of age (only 225 cases are estimated to be under 65 years of age); to these are added almost 9,000 patients with Minor Neurocognitive Disorder, that is, cognitive deficits that do not yet affect the functional autonomy of those affected.
“To organize services more efficiently and above all deal with the number of cases, our ASL, less than a year ago, updated the Pdta-Diagnostic Therapeutic Assistance Pathway for dementia”, explains Francesca Milito, General Director of ASL Roma 3 who, on the occasion of World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21, has decided to promote tomorrow, at the Casal Bernocchi headquarters, a meeting with the professionals of the Roman health company and the associations that together take care of people affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the area, offering constant support to their families. “The appeal we want to make to citizens is not to underestimate the first symptoms and to ask for advice immediately. Our facilities are available, but it is important to study and immediately undertake an appropriate treatment path”, adds Milito.
“Our company provides a Center for Cognitive Disorders and Dementia divided into six territorial locations within as many Polyclinics (Fiumicino, Paolini and Ostia Antica, Acilia, Monteverde and Vaiano). To make our action more effective, we have implemented a series of integrated and coordinated prevention, diagnosis and therapy activities thanks to the new Pdta”, adds Giovanni Mancini, Neurologist responsible for the Center for Cognitive Disorders and Dementia of the ASL Roma 3.
