/ The Iraqi sports photographer, Amal Al-Nasrawi, is participating in photographing her country’s matches in the Asian Cup currently being held in Qatar, after she worked on covering most of the matches of the 25th Gulf Cup last year in Basra, in which Iraq won the championship title.

The traditions of society did not prevent Amal Al-Nasrawi from carrying a camera and photographing football matches inside and outside Iraq, until her fellow photographers got used to watching her move around the green rectangle looking for a different angle to take pictures of her country’s team, to convey to the viewer scenes of the pain of loss or tears of joy at victory.

Amal Al-Nasrawi (60 years old) told Shafak News Agency about her career in the field of photography, “I have been a photographer for 45 years, and I entered the field of sports photography 10 years ago.”

The member of the administrative board of the Photographers Association, Karbala branch, added, “I entered the field of sports photography in the West Asian Championship at Karbala International Stadium, as the first female sports photographer, and I participated in photographing the Premier League, the Professionals, the 25th Gulf Cup, and others.”

She added, “I am currently participating in the Asian Cup in Qatar as the first photographer from Iraq to enter the country to photograph the Asian Cup matches.”

Al-Nasrawi complains about the lack of support from the Football Association, as do her fellow photographers. “I traveled to Qatar at my own expense, because I wanted Iraqi women to have a presence in the sports stadiums in Qatar.”

The Iraqi team crushed the Indonesian team 3-1 and inflicted a historic defeat on Japan 2-1 to qualify for the round of 16 as group leaders on head-to-head basis, regardless of the outcome of its next match with the Vietnamese team.

The match between Iraq and Vietnam is scheduled to take place in the third round of the Asian Cup group stage on Wednesday, January 24, at 2:30 pm Iraq time, at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, which is affiliated with Al Sadd Club.
