jpnn.comACEH BESAR – Hundreds of residents participated in the clean-up activity of Ladong Beach in Mesjid Raya District, Aceh Besar Regency, Saturday (3/8). The action collected hundreds of kilograms of organic and inorganic waste.

Aneuk Muda Aceh Unggul Hebat (AMANAH) initiated this activity by involving a number of participants. Among them, students of SMPN 3 Mesjid Raya, students and lecturers of Syiah Kuala University (USK) start-up companies and several environmentalist communities in Aceh.

“The event is a mutual cooperation on the beach to clean up the trash in a sorted state. Because, all of this trash will be taken to their respective places to be recycled,” said the Director of the USK Waste Bank, Ir Rama Herawati MP, as a participant.

Participants began the action of collecting trash in the coastal area along almost half a kilometer. The location is a tourism area in front of the Aceh Industrial Area (KIA).

According to Rama, the scattered trash is food and drink residue from residents and tourists. Among them are, drinking water bottles and plastic packaging, food scraps and other organic waste.

“The pollution here is very serious because every (gap) of rock is filled with trash. So, those who enjoy this earth put their trash down. It’s just irresponsible in my opinion,” he said with concern.

Therefore, the movement to clean up trash also needs to be followed by educational activities about maintaining cleanliness and waste management. Especially, education that targets the younger generation and local residents.

In addition to conducting clean-up activities, AMANAH also provided education to all participants. The speaker on that occasion was Water Sanitation and Hygiene (Wash) Consultant from UNICEF, Yulian Gressando.

AMANAH held a social activity by cleaning up trash at Ladong Beach with young people.
